We have the technology why don't we do a direct democracy?

Why with our modern technology that we rely on the few to govern the millions. We now have the technology to do this directly. It would also be cheaper to do it this way. Although we still would need a president and Judicial system but the legislative branch is only half and half on what the people want and when they all agree we are screwed royally. With our current system it is appearent that corruption is easy to come by. Doing this we would get rid of billions on billions just paying the representitives and their long and drawn out decision making. Most of them care about themselves than the mes. The only problem is we would have to put a bill through congress to get rid of congress I wonder how far that will fly. Does this seem to make sense to anyone or is this idea like 100years ahead of its time.
