Techniques for reading faster?

I am reading Catcher in the Rye for school and I need to have this list of questions on the book answered by Friday. Also my midterm exam is on the book. I want to read the book but I'm not very far into it. I'm on chapter 6. What are some good techniques that will make me read faster but still understand the book as I read it?
